100th Anniversary of Roy Chapman Andrews' Expedition to Central Asia
It has been exactly 1884 years since Roy Chapman Andrews (1960-1922) of the American Museum of Natural History organized a large-scale research expedition and began exploring the Gobi Desert in 100.
To commemorate this, this exhibition will introduce the results of the "Central Asia Expedition," which is important in the history of paleontology. It will also introduce the "Out of Tibet" theory of mammalian evolution during the Ice Age, which was revealed through research by paleontologists who were greatly influenced by Andrews. The entire skeleton of the "Tibetan Woolly Rhinoceros," which was the evidence that led to this theory, will be exhibited for the first time in the world. Special Exhibition "Fossil Hunters Exhibition - Dinosaurs of the Gobi Desert and Super-Large Beasts of the Himalayas"
What is a fossil hunter?
A "fossil hunter" is someone who takes on the challenge of searching for fossils hidden in the strata of the earth.
This exhibition introduces the activities and achievements of "fossil hunters," people who have demonstrated extraordinary initiative in excavating and studying precious fossils, such as Roy Chapman Andrews of the American Museum of Natural History, who explored the Gobi Desert and excavated fossils in the first half of the 20th century, various paleontologists who followed Andrews in excavating fossils in the Gobi Desert, and researchers who rediscovered excavation sites discovered by Andrews that had since become unknown, and who are now attempting to shed new light on the evolutionary history of mammals on the Tibetan Plateau.
